The National Institute of Motivational and Institutional Development (NIMID) was set up with the basic purpose of developing the potential of the individual as also promoting healthy institutional life in society. The main aim was to accelerate the pace of development and thus create wealth with values and usher in harmonious, healthy and humanistic growth with justice for all.

An individual is neither an input nor a resource like materials, machines and money. Yet, the individual is the major contributory factor to the process of social and institutional development. In a sense, organizations in society exist primarily to provide the individual with a proper context for growth and development. This actually implies increasing the availability of choices for the individual or even organizations and society as a whole.

In 1975, promoted by G.B.Newalkar and M.S.Nadkarni, both innovative professionals in the largely unexplored area of motivational training and industrial management, NIMID was supported by eminent persons in Government and Business and recognized as both, a registered society (Regn. No.:F/23003648/1975) and a public trust (Regn. No.:206230036481975).  Honorable Shri Y. B. Chavan, then Union Defense Minister, was its first President while Mr. R. Venkataraman, Mr. H.T.Parekh, Mr. R.S.Bhat, Mr. R.K.Talwar, Mr. James Raj, Dr. Malcolm Adisheshaia, Seth Walchand Hirachand were among its founder-members. Many others like Dr. David McClelland of the Harvard University have been associated with NIMID since its inception.

Through a large pool of associates in diverse fields, NIMID offers services in three major areas:
